Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club Welcomes Future Aggies at a Record-Setting Howdy Party
The Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club proudly welcomed an incredible turnout at its annual Howdy Party and Membership Drive, bringing together incoming Aggies, current students, parents, alumni, and community members for an evening filled with Aggie spirit, valuable information, and new friendships.
The evening was generously sponsored by Commerce Bank, whose support helped make the event a memorable success. Guests were welcomed with an informative financial presentation by Commerce Bank representatives, who shared practical tips on budgeting, managing personal finances, and protecting against today’s increasingly common financial scams. Their presentation provided students and families with valuable tools to help them make smart financial decisions as they prepare for college life.
Following the financial presentation, Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club President Sheri Porras warmly welcomed everyone and introduced the organization. She shared the club’s mission of supporting the comfort, welfare, and success of Aggie students while raising funds for deserving students from Laredo and Webb County attending Texas A&M University. President Porras also highlighted the many ways the club serves Aggie families through volunteerism, fellowship, fundraising, and preserving cherished Aggie traditions. Her heartfelt presentation helped incoming families understand that the Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club is more than an organization—it is an Aggie family committed to supporting students throughout their college journey.
Attendees then heard from special guest Kayla Alvarado, whose personal stories and experiences as an Aggie provided encouragement and insight into college life at Texas A&M. Her heartfelt remarks helped ease the transition for incoming students and inspired families as they prepared for the exciting journey ahead.
The evening also featured exciting raffle prize giveaways, which added to the fun and excitement of the event. The Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club is deeply grateful to the many generous businesses, organizations, and Current Aggie Moms who donated these wonderful prizes. Their kindness and continued support not only made the evening even more memorable for our guests but also demonstrated the strong commitment our community has to encouraging local students as they begin their Aggie journey.
A particularly touching moment of the evening was a special tribute to J.J. Sanchez, whose life and legacy continue to inspire the work of the Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club. His story served as a heartfelt reminder of the importance of supporting young people as they pursue higher education and their dreams. In his memory, the club proudly awards the J.J. Sanchez Memorial Scholarship, ensuring that his legacy lives on by helping future Aggies achieve their educational goals. His memory continues to inspire generosity, service, and a commitment to investing in the next generation of Aggie leaders.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was the recognition of this year’s scholarship recipients, whose academic achievements and dedication exemplify the Aggie spirit. The celebration also welcomed the newest Aggie Moms into the club, reinforcing the sense of family and lifelong support that defines the Aggie community.
The Laredo Texas A&M Mothers’ Club extends its sincere appreciation to Commerce Bank for sponsoring this year’s Howdy Party, as well as to our guest speakers, volunteers, donors, and every Aggie Mom whose dedication and countless volunteer hours made the evening such a tremendous success. We also extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our community partners and local businesses whose generous raffle prize donations helped make the evening extra special. Your continued support allows us to fulfill our mission of serving Aggie students and awarding scholarships to deserving students from Webb County.
With one of the largest turnouts in recent years, this year’s Howdy Party demonstrated the strength of the Aggie family in Laredo and the community’s commitment to supporting future Aggies. The club looks forward to another exciting year of fellowship, service, fundraising, and scholarship opportunities.
Gig ’em, and welcome to the Aggie family!
